A GROUP is a number of individuals who interact recurrently according to come pattern of social organization.
A GROUP in social psychological sense is a plurality of persons who interact with one another in a given context more than they interact with anyone else.

TYPES OF GROUP

In primary group, there is no reward system i.e. Mothers, fathers and children who are members of this group do not get promotions and medals for good performance.

SECONDARY GROUP: Are structured in a way so as to help achieve the goals of the organizations. They are constantly engaged in the process of self-correction and re-direction. It attempt to use people in the most efficient way.

IN-GROUP: Are those group one belongs to which include one's family, church, profession, etc. The feeling of belonginess makes such groups our own group. Consequently, members of an in-group have a 'we' feeling.
It must be noted that members of the in-group have certain things in common e.g. They may share certain sentiments, have the same goal definition e.t.c.

OUT-GROUP: Are groups that are eternal to us but which others belong to. Those who belong to out-group are referred to as 'they'.
The concept of out-group can be illustrated using two different professions e.g. If a group belong to the legal profession and you a medical practitioner, those other group form an out-group in relation to you.

REFERENCE GROUP: Is a concept in terms of which the individuals views or evaluates himself. Such groups serve as models to us even though we may not belong to them.
In Sociology, reference group is any group whose value judgements becomes our value judgement. In other words, reference group are groups that serve as models for our behaviour.
